FHA Appraisals

A primary mission of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is to encourage the growth of home ownership in the United States. As a part of the mission, the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) was created to insure certain types of residential mortgages. This authority has, in turn, enacted a certification process for appraisers to follow in order to meet their specific needs. Overall, an FHA appraisal requires an inspection and report that is more detailed than those requested by the typical financial institution.
